UBMBC 2020 TRIPLES CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

 

Congratulations to George Boni, Roger Twells & Colin Mew on winning the UBMBC 2020 Triples Championship over Brian Butterworth, Larry Johnston & Warren Brooks this afternoon  Colin and his team proved too good for Warren on the day, coming home comfortably with a 31-6 win. Warren, Brian & Larry had previously defeated two of the favourite teams, on their march to the final, but today was not their day.

UBMBC/UBWBC 2020 MIXED PAIRS FINAL

 

The Final of the UBMBC/UBWBC 2020 Mixed Pairs was played this afternoon (Sunday 1st November), in cold, wet & windy conditions...not nice at all. However, all four bowlers had to play in it. Despite the poor conditions, there were some very good bowls played...

The final result was

UBMBC 2020 VETERAN PAIRS FINAL

2020 Veteran Pairs finalists

As expected, this was a great game and worthy of a Final. Victor Gauci & George Boni kept a small lead throughout the game, which left Larry Johnston & Terry Brown needing 5 on the last end, to force an extra end. However, Vic & George were holding 5 shots and Terry had one bowl left, which cut Vic & George down to 3 shots. Congratulations to Vic & George on becoming the UBMBC 2020 Veteran Pairs Champions 19 - 11 (the score didn't reflect how close the game was). Commiserations to Larry & Terry, who did very well to get to the final. Very well done to Terry for making two Veteran finals in two years and well done also to Larry for making two finals in as many weeks.

2020 Minor Singles Championship Final

 

It was a great afternoon for bowls, with the sun shining, when Jim Phillips became the 56 winner of Umina's Minor Singles on 12th September 2020. Grant Watson played well after a wobbly start. Losing 7 shots on the 1st 2 ends, he recovered to get himself back in the game. The score was neck and neck throughout, with Jim just managing to maintain a small lead, until the end. The final score 31-22. Congratulations Jim.

Veterans Singles Championship Final

 

6 time club champion, Allan Rhodes showed he still has a few tricks in the bag, after taking out Umina's Veteran Singles championship on Saturday 12th September 2020. This was only the 2nd time this event has been held for the over 70s bowlers. (which includes a large number of our members). Peter Springett a former club champion himself, and current veterans champion, was no match for Allan on the day. Allan won by 22-8 in a 1st to 21+ event.  Congratulations Allan.

Minor Pairs 2020 Championship Final

It was a hard fought win for John Hall and Terry Murphy in Umina's Minor Pairs final on Saturday 12th September. Larry Johnston and Warren Brooks stormed out of the blocks to take a 13-2 lead after just a few ends, leaving John and Terry with and up hill battle to get back into the game. With a final score of 22-21, they managed to snatch the lead and cling to it, till the end. Congratulation John and Terry.

2020 Major Singles Final

Glen Simington & Shane Waddell. 

Glen Simington became Umina's 58th Major Singles champion on Sunday 19th July 2020. After a great game of bowls. Glen managed to come from behind to beat Shane 33-25. Shane had lead from the start and clung to a slender lead the entire game, but Glen had saved his best until the last few ends, when he finally drew level at 25-25. From then on, there was no holding Glen back, as he drew some cracking shots to finish the game with a 3 on the final end. A well deserved win.

UBMBC 2020 MAJOR FOURS

This was a very good, tight game for the first half of the game, then Robbie's side picked up a 3 and 4 shots, which proved to be the difference in the end. There were some great bowls played throughout the game, on a slightly heavy green. It was a great game played in a very good spirit. In the end, Paul Trigg, George Boni, Peter Springett & Robbie Andersen are the UBMBC 2020 Fours Champions. Congratulations to George Boni for winning the Man of the Match for his 2nd half performance and Special Congratulations to Paul Trigg, who won his first UBMBC Majors Title at his first attempt...

Tuesday - Ladies Bowls

The Umina Beach Women's Bowling Club will be using the greens on Tuesday (Ladies Day) until at least 3.00pm each week starting from the 4th February 2020 for at least ten weeks for  Ladies Pennant Training.

The 7th April  will be the Ladies Turn Around Triples Day & their Pennants start  on the 14th April 2020.
