Jock & Lee go out with a WIN!

The final of the mixed fours proved to be one of the highlights of the year with the game going down to the wire on the last end. “Jock” Young’s team of Lee Morley, Corinne Dixon, Jeff Dixon beating the experienced team of Elaine Finlayson, Leanne Chenoweth, Shane Starkey and Mal Dodd’s 18-16 on the last end. The game had the spectators on the edge of their seats for the game. Well done. Unfortunately Jock and Lee are leaving for greener pastures around Grafton and we wish them well in their new adventure.

Rookie Captures Unique Double

Umina’s Shane Starkey, a bowler of just two years experience, has captured two Central Coast titles in just a week apart.
Firstly, he won the Rookie Pairs with club mate Glen Simington and on Sunday 25th September he won the prestige Champion of Club Champion Pairs with partner Peter O’Sullivan by defeating the accomplished Toukley District pair of Eric Henricksen and Barrie McFetters.
For Shane it’s a dream come true as the Zone Match Committee did not see it coming as they had both events scheduled for the same weekend, not expecting a Rookie to qualify in the Champion of Club Champion Pairs which is usually contested by the most experienced of bowlers.
These two outstanding wins will see Glen and Shane travelling to Raymond Terrace on the 8th October and Peter and Shane off to The Rules BC Wagga Wagga from 21-24 November to contest the State Final Series of both events.
They can rest assured they will have all Central Coast bowlers behind them in their endeavors to complete the ultimate dream of winning a State title.

Steady Drizzle Failed to Deter Rookies in Pairs Final

Steady drizzle failed to deter Umina’s Glenn Simington / Shane Starkey and Halekulani’s Brendan Wrice / Graham Bates in the final of the Central Coast division of the Bowls NSW Rookies Pairs for those bowlers with less than thirty months playing experience.
Played at Umina Beach BC on Sunday 18th September both teams played top quality draw bowls under damp and adverse conditions.
The Umina Beach duo jumped away to a handy early lead of 7-2 in the short 12 end final but the Halekulani pair fought back as the rain got heavier but the local lads of Glenn Simington and Shane Starkey held their cool to run out winners 9-6.
Glenn and Shane will now go to Raymond Terace BC on Saturday 8th October to play off in the State Final Series.
The Scoreboard tells the tale of the final of the final of the Rookie Pairs won by Umina’s Glenn Simington &, Shane Starkey over Hali’s Graham Bates & Brendan Wrice
Umina’s Glenn Simington & Shane Starkey happy winners of the Central Coast division of the Rookie Pairs
