2024 Veteran Singles Championship

The Final of the 2024 Veteran Singles was played in near perfect conditions this afternoon, between Allan Jones & Kevin Bettridge.
AJ got out to a quick fire 10 - 0 lead after 7 ends, then 16 - 6 after 11 ends. Kevin hung in there and started to draw very well. He reduced the lead to 19 - 17 after 18 ends. Kevin went on to win 5 of the next 7 ends to take the lead 24 - 23 after 25 ends. Kevin held his nerve when it looked like AJ held game, but drew shot to take out the title 25 - 23. This was anyones game, but Kevin deserved the win after such a great fight back. Congratulations Men on a great Final. The enthusiastic spectators were glued to their seats, right to the end. Bowls was definitely the winner in this game. Very well done Kev and AJ.

2024 Veteran Pairs Championship.

The Final of the 2024 Veteran Pairs Championship was played this afternoon (17/11/2024). The Final was between Ray Ransome & Geoff Collins Vs Peter O'Meagher & Vic Gauci.
Both teams played very well in warm, pleasant conditions, but the combination of Ray Ransome & Geoff Collins were the more consistent on the day.
Congratulations to all players for making the final, in this tough competition. Special congratulations to Ray Ransome, as this is his first championship win.

2024 Major Singles Championship

The Final of the 2024 Major Singles Championship was played this afternoon (17/11/2024). The Final was between the current Singles Champion, Greg Shirley Vs Grant (come back kid) Watson. It's hard to believe that this was only Grant's fifth game in two years!!!
The conditions for the game were near perfect, warm with a slight breeze, to keep everyone comfortable.
Despite Grant's sensational semi-final win yesterday, he played against an 'on-fire' Greg today. Greg got into the lead and just kept going. Congratulations to Grant on making the final of the UBMBC premier event, after a long time out of the game. But it was a sensational back to back major singles win by Greg.
Very well marked by Steve Stead.

Central Coast Bowls 2024/2025 Reserve Fours Champions

(L to R) John Hall, Warren Brooks, Toni Oliver (CCB Director), Rob Merrill & Colin Mew.

Congratulations to John Hall, Warren Brooks, Rob Merrill & Colin Mew on winning the Central Coast Bowls 2024/2025 Reserve Fours Championship, against the Mingara Mustangs 17 - 15, at Ettalong Bowling Club this afternoon (16/11/2024).
The boys had a very handy lead 16 - 8 at the half way stage, but Mingara clawed their way back into the game and it was Umina 16 - Mingara 15 going into the last end. Not too many close bowls on the last end and Mingara were holding one shot, which was just under a metre away. In came Rob Merril with his second bowl and drew a resting toucher (at 3.44pm). Umina won the end and the title 17 - 15. Sensational win by the boys, who now play in the State play offs in Ballina next year. Go Umina.....

RU OK? Day Event.

UBMBC held their annual RU OK? event at the Club on Wednesday 11th September. The successful event was co-ordinated by Rex Hunt, with much appreciated help from Ron Austin, Robin Hill, Lee Cribbs, Glenn Simington and others....
Over 60 UBMBC members took part in the event, which was sponsored by Connect Hearing. Charlotte Lea from Connect Hearing conducted free hearing tests and presented the major raffle prize of a specialist headset, to winner Damien McPherson.
R U OK? is an Australian non-profit suicide prevention organisation, founded by advertiser Gavin Larkin in 2009. It revolves around the slogan "R U OK?" and advocates for people to have conversations with others. The organisation holds a dedicated R U OK?
As well as raising awareness of Men's mental health issues, the attendees raised about $1,200 for the RU OK? Charity and also had a lot of fun, as the following photos will attest to.
Many thanks to everyone involved in this very important day....

Congratulations and thank you to Ian Jarratt and his team on arranging and running another successful Ron Pursehouse Prostate Charity Day yesterday (19/6/2024). The objective of the day is to enable Central Coast Health to purchase valuable and modern day urological equipment for Gosford and Wyong Hospitals.
Over 80 people attended and supported the event and although not all the money has come in yet, we anticipate that we would raise about $8,600 for this very worthy charity.
There were lots of prize and auction winners, which I managed to get pictures of.
There were LOTS of people to thank, for helping to make this such a successful event. Many thanks to Creightons Funerals for sponsoring the event.
